This event marks the launch of Dr. Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui’s groundbreaking new book, DEI Undone: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, explores how radical liberation was sold out for corporate branding through the very structures they were meant to dismantle.

Dr. Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui will be joined by a powerful panel of internationally renowned journalists and public intellectuals exploring the intersections of media narratives, state power, and the courageous acts of resistance required to spark real change. Together, the panel will take a deep dive into how power structures manipulate identity and information, and what it truly means to “read between the lines” in the modern age. The evening will be a fundraising event to support Penny Appeal Canada’s on-going emergency response efforts in Gaza, helping to raise vital humanitarian funds for medical relief and aid.

About the Speakers

Dr. Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui

A world-renowned sociologist, professor, and DEI expert. Her work focuses on migration, race/ethnicity, and the challenges of integration in a climate of rising Islamophobia. As a frequent media commentator for CBC and CTV, her research has shaped public policy and community engagement across Canada. Her latest book, DEI Undone: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, challenges the efficacy of modern corporate diversity frameworks.

Dr. Myriam François

A British journalist, filmmaker, and scholar with a PhD from Oxford University. An award-winning broadcaster, she has produced documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, including the BAFTA-longlisted Finding Alaa. She currently hosts The Tea for Al Jazeera English and is the founder of MPWR Productions, focusing on ethical storytelling and global social justice.

Aaron Maté

A Canadian journalist and senior writer for The Grayzone. Known for his meticulous analysis of geopolitics and media misinformation, Maté won the Izzy Award for his skepticism of the Russiagate narrative. He is the author of Cold War, Hot War and a regular contributor to The Nation and Useful Idiots, specializing in the critique of U.S. interventionism.

Abby Martin

An American investigative journalist and filmmaker known for her fierce anti-imperialist advocacy. She is the founder of Media Roots and the creator of the Empire Files. Her 2026 feature film, Earth’s Greatest Enemy, is a groundbreaking documentary that identifies the U.S. military as the world’s single largest institutional polluter, challenging mainstream environmental and military narratives.
