Thirst Relief

With your Thirst Relief donations, you’ll be providing entire communities not only with the simple gift of clean water, but you’ll be providing them with the pathway out of poverty. Dependable access to safe, clean water means that drinking, cooking, washing, watering crops, hydrating animals and making wudu no longer come with the threat of disease.

It also allows women and children fetching water to do so with ease, instead of having to travel for miles, carrying heavy buckets of water. This saves them time and effort, giving them the chance to go to school, work or spend time looking after their families.

How Does Thirst Relief Work?

Within 12 months you will receive a complete report which includes:

Sustainable Water Solutions

Our Solar Water and Power Centres are a sustainable answer to the water crisis in many of the countries we help.

We’re using sustainable, green technologies to bring clean water to people in need. Our Solar Water and Power Centres supply water to the homes of up to 1,500 people and 1,000 livestock, as well as supplying electricity and power to schools and mosques!

Our Solar Water and Power Centres supply people with a reliable source of water right within their communities, so they no longer have to travel great distances to collect water or rely on questionable water sources for drinking and washing. Equipped with large water tankers, capable of holding mass quantities of water, these wells assure that freshwater is readily available for everyone throughout the community. People can easily pump water from the tank through a solar pump, eliminating any difficulty from the process of gathering water.

A Solar Water and Power Centre costs $35,000 to build but donate $240 a month and we will team you up with other generous donors so you can transform communities together!

Palestine Desalination Unit

Active
Give the children of Gaza a safe and healthy environment by contributing towards the building of desalination units in 3 campuses of a public university. These water systems reduce their dependence on polluted water sources, allows for more sustainable use of resources (as well as meeting emergency needs), promotes healthier lifestyles, and provides a cleaner environment for studying.

Past Projects

Pakistan Hospital Water Filtration Plants

Penny Appeal Canada has provided an accessible source of clean drinking water to the beneficiaries of secondary and tertiary care in 12 public hospitals in Karachi by building 12 water filtration plants. This has greatly reduced the burden of buying bottled water and prevented the spread of waterborne diseases in them.

Malawi WASH Project

Penny Appeal Canada is constructing and installing 25 borehole water wells in 11 muslim villages in Malawi. With more than half of its population living below the poverty line, Malawi is a country in need of infrastructure support. This project provides access to clean drinking water and sanitation to rural villages.

Nigeria Holistic WASH Project

In Benue State Nigeria, PAC repaired wells and trained community members in the maintenance of 41 water pumps across 35 communities. This provided clean drinking water and sanitation to an expected 15911 direct beneficiaries, 210 women were trained in village-level operations, and 35 local area mechanics were trained and equipped with tools to support maintenance.

Nepal Holistic WASH Project

This project aimed to improve water security, sanitation, and hygiene in Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality of Nepal. 3 WaSH facilities were constructed: one for the community, one for the school and one for the health facility. Toilets for 20 marginalized households as well as for the birthing facility in the health facility were also constructed.

Global Water Well Program

Through this project, PAC constructed 14 water wells in the northern areas of Bangladesh; 30 water wells in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan; and 3 water wells in Kabul province, Afghanistan. All three countries covered by the programme suffer from either restricted or contaminated water supplies due to frequent cycles of drought and/or monsoon flooding.

Indigenous Clean Water Project – Covid-19 Water Distribution

Responding to the need for clean water, PAC provided 60 large camping water containers to the Street Outreach Program, who worked with Indigenous Housing Services and Public Health Street Outreach workers to provide water to approximately 30 encampments in Hamilton, who had lost access to drinking water due to COVID-19.

Bangladesh Solar Water Pump and Power Center Project

In Shyamnager, Satkhira, PAC constructed a Solar Power Water Pump and Power Center to provide 290 community members with access to safe drinking water and electricity. This project consisted of the power center, a solar street light, electricity connection to local buildings, and an animal water drinking point.
