Water Is Life. We Deliver It.

Penny Appeal Canada takes a customized approach to delivering water security to communities. A displaced family in Gaza needs water trucked in today. A village in Somalia needs a borehole drilled deep enough to survive the dry season. A community in rural Pakistan needs a solar-powered system that runs without fuel or electricity.
Thirst Relief isn’t focused on one solution. It is a full range of water solutions, each designed for the specific circumstances of our beneficiaries. Because every community deserves safe access to clean water.
OUR WATER SOLUTIONS
Global Thirst Relief Fund
Not sure where to start? This flexible gift goes directly to the water projects with the most urgent need, funding larger shared wells and filling the gaps that other donations can't reach. It's the fastest way to make sure your donation has maximum impact, wherever in the world it's needed most.
Emergency Water Delivery
In Gaza, Sudan and Yemen, wells and pipelines have been destroyed by conflict, leaving displaced and besieged families without a single safe source of water. Emergency Water Delivery brings clean water directly to these communities by tanker truck.
Each 5,000-litre delivery sustains hundreds of people, keeping a community going until permanent systems can be rebuilt. When the need is immediate, this is the fastest way to help.
- Delivery size: 5,000 litres per truck
- Reach: Hundreds of people per delivery
- Regions: Gaza, Sudan, Yemen
Hand-Pump Well
A sealed hand-pump well brings safe drinking water directly to a family or a small cluster of homes. This water solution is critical in arsenic-affected regions of Bangladesh and the rocky highlands of Kashmir and Pakistan, where shallow water sources are often unsafe. Where the terrain is hard or water sits deep underground, we install a mechanized deep pump instead, so the well keeps running year-round, regardless of season.
- Serves: 30–60 people (6–12 households)
- Depth: Approx. 60–100 ft
- Construction: Sealed well head with concrete apron and washing pad
- Regions: Bangladesh, Kashmir, Pakistan
High-Yield Community Well
This shared well reaches deep, pressurized groundwater that stays clean even when shallow sources turn salty or become contaminated by flooding. Fitted with an electric, solar, or pulley lift system, storage tank, taps and a cement basin, it delivers a reliable daily water source to an entire village.
- Serves: 150–250 people per day
- Depth: Varies by site; up to approx. 80 m where needed
- Construction: Electric/solar or pulley lift, storage tank, taps, cement basin
- Regions: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia
Community Borehole
Across East and West Africa, water scarcity can be severe and unrelenting. This deep, durable hand-pump borehole is drilled to a protected aquifer far below the reach of drought or contamination. Fitted with a standard pump that local communities are trained to maintain themselves, water keeps flowing long after the well is handed over, for the whole village to rely on for years to come.
- Serves: 300–500 people (village-wide)
- Depth: Approx. 120–270 ft (shallower where the water table allows)
- Construction: Afridev-standard pump, cement apron, washing area
- Regions: Chad, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Nigeria, Cameroon
Off-Grid Water Well
This is a high-capacity solar-powered water system complete with a pump, elevated storage tank, and multiple tap stations, bringing reliable water access to communities off-grid or regions where the availability of electricity is inconsistent. Water can be stored for the dry season, ending the long daily walk for water that so often falls to women and girls in Pakistan, Ghana, and Senegal.
Placed at a mosque or school, a single solar well can become a village's central water point, running entirely off-grid, day and night, all year round.
- Serves: 500–1,000 people
- Depth: Approx. 65–100 ft (20–30 m)
- Construction: Solar/electric pump, storage tank, distributed tap stands
- Regions: Ghana, Senegal, Pakistan

How Thirst Relief Donations Make A Difference
Give Water,
Give Life
Safe and reliable access to clean water saves lives every single day. Without a safe water source nearby, women and children (especially young girls) often walk miles, carrying heavy loads, just to bring water home, time that could otherwise go toward school, work or family. Clean water prevents the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera and others, helping families stay happy and healthy.
With a donation to Thirst Relief, you are giving a community the freedom to cook, wash, farm and thrive without fear of disease, and giving women and girls back the hours to live a full, happy life.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ramadan water charity donations provide clean, life-saving water to communities in need, while fulfilling a vital Islamic obligation to give and bring hope during the holy month.
Donating water in Islam is considered a highly rewarded act of charity (Sadaqah jariyah) and supports those suffering from water scarcity. The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was asked, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.” (Sunan al-Nasa’i)
Penny Appeal Canada offers water well projects where donors can contribute to building wells, solar power water centres, communal water centres, and sustainable water supplies, ensuring safe water access for generations.
An Islamic water charity project includes building water wells, improving local infrastructure, and ensuring ongoing maintenance by community members for sustainable impact.
Our Islamic water well projects are designed according to local needs and adhere to Islamic charitable principles, making each donation impactful. Our wells and water supply systems are maintained by community members and ensure a safe supply of water by tapping into underground water sources from 150 – 500m deep and designed to last more than 10 years.
While we do our best to allocate donations to the specific project or region selected, Penny Appeal Canada reserves the right to redirect funds to where the need is greatest. Water insecurity can shift quickly due to conflict, drought, or natural disasters, and some regions may face access restrictions, project delays, or funding gaps that require flexibility. If a specific project is fully funded, delayed, or no longer feasible, or if another community faces a more urgent water crisis, your donation may be reallocated to a comparable water project to ensure it creates maximum impact without delay.
The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:
“The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Sunan al-Nasaee)
