THE SITUATION ON THE GROUND

On June 24, 2026, two massive earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, hit Northern Venezuela just 39 seconds apart. It was the country’s strongest earthquake in over a century. Entire neighborhoods in Caracas and La Guaira areas collapsed in seconds.

More than 2000 people have died and over 5,000 have been injured. Tens of thousands remain missing, with reports saying the number of unaccounted people could be more than 50,000. 12,000+ people have been displaced from their homes. The scale of this disaster is staggering and still growing. At least 2,500 buildings have collapsed or been severely damaged, and 13 hospitals across the country have sustained damage. Rescue teams continue to search the rubble but subsequent aftershocks have put both survivors and responders at further risk.
