On August 26, 2026, catastrophic flash floods tore through Nepal’s Trishuli River region, unleashing a devastating wall of water, ice, and rock that swept away entire communities. The number of lives lost continues to climb past 1,300, with thousands still missing. More than 93,000 people have been affected by the devastation, including more than 22,000 children.
Media footage on the ground showed apocalyptic damage to homes and infrastructure so devastating, many believed it was not real. Unfortunately, the scale of damage is all too real with children being the hardest hit.
This tragedy adds to the weight Nepal already carries. Beyond this disaster, the country continues to face serious socio-economic hardship, recurring natural disasters, and humanitarian needs that strain its most vulnerable communities.
