On November 3, 2025, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan near the city of Mazar-e-Sharif. Sadly, 20 people have lost their lives with the toll expected to rise. Just two months prior, Eastern Afghanistan was struck by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake which flattened entire villages and took the lives of over 1,400 lives lost and more than 2,800 injured, with many more still trapped under rubble. More than 500 people have been injured after a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif on November 3, 2025. The latest news reports 20 people have lost their lives. The provinces of Balkh and Samangan have suffered the most damage. It has also been reported that approximately 800 homes were damaged or destroyed in Badakhshan. The historic Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif experienced some damage as well.

This comes on the heels of another earthquake that occurred two months prior in Eastern Afghanistan with a magnitude of 6.3, taking the lives of more than 1,400 and injuring thousands. Rebuilding and reconstruction efforts from that event are still ongoing, stretching limited resources very thin.
