Flash floods kill over 478 in Pakistan

Flash floods across Pakistan have claimed the lives of over 478 people and injured hundreds. 37,000 homes in the flood-hit areas have been damaged or destroyed since June 14. The government has issued warnings of further extreme monsoon downpours in 14 more cities.

The dead include women and children, and over 284 people have been injured. Flash floods are common during Pakistan’s monsoon season, but this year they have been particularly devastating, with some areas being flooded by more than three feet of rain in just one day.

Penny Appeal Canada is responding to the victims of the flood by providing food packs, hygiene kits, shelter and other critical supplies to affected families in Sindh and Balochistan provinces through local community welfare organizations.

Multi-phase Response

Penny Appeal Canada is responding to the crisis in Pakistan by providing food packs and shelter for families who have been impacted by the floods. Using a multiphase response strategy, in coordination with local partners, Penny Appeal Canada is doing the following:

1

Food and gas distribution

Penny Appeal is coordinating the distribution of food packs and gas cylinders with the help of national network of local offices to the affected areas, with volunteers on-ground helping to coordinate distributions. Kits have been distributed throughout the province of Sindh. The current focus is now on Balochistan.

2

Shelter

One of the most pressing needs of the people in Pakistan is a place to live as thousands have lost their homes. We are raising money to build emergency shelters, where you will be able to provide a space for some women, men and children that have been affected by this natural disaster.
